Material selection shapes the way a building ages and how it is felt at eye level. A beautiful sample alone cannot answer whether a facade belongs on a particular site.
Consider exposure and care
Ask which elevations receive strong sun, wind or dust. Test how joints, finishes and colours will look after regular cleaning and repair. A material is only practical when its maintenance can be planned from the beginning.
Study the building up close
The ground floor is experienced slowly and at arm’s length. Texture, edges and transitions matter here more than a distant rendering. Mock up a corner and an opening, not just a flat panel.
Connect choice to purpose
Compare options by durability, comfort, visual weight, availability and cost. The strongest palette is usually a small set of materials with a clear role for each, rather than many finishes competing for attention.
