Designing with Taif’s Mountain Landscape

A mountain site asks for more than a striking silhouette. Its slopes, views, winds and routes already form a spatial framework. Good design begins by reading that framework before drawing a building.

Start with the ground

Map changes in level, existing paths and the way water moves after rain. These observations can guide entrances, terraces and the position of outdoor rooms. A plan that follows the terrain often needs less excavation and feels more natural to use.

Frame the view with purpose

Not every room needs the same panorama. Place shared spaces where the landscape can be enjoyed together, and protect quieter spaces from glare and exposure. The strongest view is often the one revealed gradually along a route.

Make the journey comfortable

Steps, ramps and shaded pauses should work as one connected experience. When movement is clear and accessible, the landscape becomes part of daily life rather than a backdrop seen only from a window.
